Cardiff Castle, 1994

from the series 'Happenstance'

March 2013

If I had to choose one picture I took that steered me towards street photography it would be this one. At the time I was studying at Newport and started to take day trips to Cardiff to look for different things to shoot. I was just making my way back when I spotted the peacock and stopped just for a casual shot. Then the guard came out and started a conversation with it, so I took a couple more. The picture didn’t fit in with any of the briefs we were given, except loosely perhaps the relationship one and it convinced me that I no longer needed to seek out dramatic subject matter in order to make good photography.
