Jeffrey De Keyser - A Scanner Darkly
Zine #151
The photo series ‘A Scanner Darkly’ is conceptualized as a fluid sequence of images from the subconscious, weaving together surreal dreamscapes, symbolic fragments, fading memories, obscure elements, and sublimated desires. The series intentionally avoids a linear narrative, opting instead foran unpredictable exploration into the concealed recesses of the human psyche. The result is a disturbing, fragmented collage that explores the blurred line between reality and perception.
The title ‘A Scanner Darkly’ refers to a science fiction novel written by Philip K. Dick and published in 1977. It suggests the idea of observation through a distorted or unclear lens. Just like the novel, this photo series embraces the concept that reality itself is uncertain, and the boundaries between the self and the other, truth and illusion, are difficult to discern….
